STOLEN GENERATIONS SUPPORT

Nunkuwarrin Yunti’s Link Up SA Program:

We provide family tracing, reunion and counselling services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their families who have been separated under the past policies and practices of the Australian Government. Assistance is also provided to people over the age of 18 years who have been adopted, fostered or raised in institutions.

The program is not funded to provide genealogy assistance, to locate missing persons or to find family members that have been separated due to family break downs.

Please note that priority is given to 1st generation clients.

Link-Up provides:

• Client contact and assessment

• Client and family support

• Research of client files and other relevant information

• Counselling support

• Financially contributing to reunions according to need

• Initial family contact and/or approach

• Ongoing support for clients and family following reunion

• Public awareness

• Privacy, trust and confidentiality

It’s important to note that Nunkuwarrin Yunti Link-Up SA, DOES NOT deal with monetary reparation matters. The Link -Up SA team is here to help with re-unions, family tracing and other healing services to the Stolen Generations so please contact us on 08 8406-1600 or link-upSA@nunku.org.au.

State Records of South Australia

State Records has a Senior Aboriginal Access Officer who provides services for Aboriginal people, in the spirit of Reconciliation and in recognition of individuals’ right of access to their own personal information.

Our records can help members of the Stolen Generations identify and become reunited with members of their families.

Some records are restricted from general public access to protect sensitive information about individuals. To view restricted records you must apply to the agency responsible for approval.

We can help with:

• Searching for records on behalf of researchers.

• Advice on the process for seeking permission to access records which are usually restricted from general public access.

• The development of resources to enable quicker and easier access to records relating to Aboriginal people.

• Coordinating visits by groups of researchers to our repository and Research Centre (by appointment).

• Referring researchers to other sources of records relating to Aboriginal people.

For SA Link-Up (Nunkuwarrin Yunti) clients who were previously separated from family members and are seeking information for reunification purposes, we can also assist with providing copies of relevant records free of charge.

Contact Us to ask for assistance from our Senior Aboriginal Access Officer.

We have also produced a range of Guides to Aboriginal History which may help with your research.
